Chapter Four
Carey's P.O.V.

"I'm getting into you
Because you got to me, in a way words can't describe
I'm getting into you
Because I've got to be
You're essential to survive
I'm going to love you with my life"

I sang the words to my favorite Relient K song quietly to myself, sitting on the beach several hundred feet away from camp by myself. It had been a week since my hallucination and I had kinda been avoiding everyone...everyone but Danny that is- but even he was giving me my space. He'd stay somewhat nearby to make sure I was okay and everything, but was nice enough to understand that I just wanted to be alone for a while.

I had been sitting in the same spot on the sand all day, and as night was falling and the tide was coming in, the waves began to hit my feet...then my legs, until finally the water was surrounding my bum on the sand, pulling the sand from underneath my butt out to see...causing a sinking effect. I was getting wet, but I didn't mind...nothing seemed to phase me anymore. I just felt numb.

Danny said he believed we'd be rescued soon...but we had been here for almost two weeks..with no sight of a rescue squad or boat, or plane or ANYTHING. I was beginnning to loose hope, as it became harder to remember life BEFORE the crash. It had finally sunken in, that this was the hand we'd been dealt. We were trapped on a deserted island. I liked to think of it as a challenge... a new adventure to try and live with strangers- people I knew nothing about and survive. I tried to think this way, to encourage myself to socialize, eat, do ANYTHING but sit in the sand all day.

I stared into the waves, now pounding over my body as the sun set...blanketing the beach in darkness. I sat there motionless and thoughtless, holding my chin up as the seawater rushed over my body..up to my shoulders, trying to hold my head above water. It was getting deaper, but I didn't feel like moving. It was peaceful here on the beach.. here on the dark, quiet, lonesome beach...i found peace from myself...from the thoughts, and worries, and anxiety rushing through my brain. Finally, I stared as one wave- considerably higher than the others approached me. I had to stare up at it as it neared me..sitting on the beach, watching as it grew in height. When it hit me, it knocked me backwards from my sitting position onto my back, laying down. I held my breath and opened my eyes underwater. It was dark, with very little light shining through the water from the full moon.

Soon, the water and rushed under my body, lifting me off the sand and carrying me out into deeper waters as the waves rushed back to sea. I stared up at the surface of the water, holding my breath...amazed at the serenity from under water...I couldn't hear the wind, the other survivors talking and singing farther down the beach, or the animal sounds from the rainforest behind the beach. Even the sound of the waves, crashing against the rocks and beach subsided from underwater. It was just me and the motion of the ocean..

Danny's P.O.V.

I watched Carey sit in the waves from farther up the beach, getting comfy on a self-made bed of blankets as the sun was setting. The moon was up now, illuminating the beach in a white glow. I looked over to Harry and Brianna, who were reading by the fire light. It was some book they had found in a washed up suitcase, and somehow managed to be unharmed by the water...probably in a plastic bag inside the suitcase or something that kept it dry.
I smiled at them, glad they were getting along so well..that Harry had some company here on the island. I looked back to the beach and my heart froze. I watched as Carey sat motionless on the beach as a huge tidal wave neared her, before swallowing her underwater completely.

"Carey!" i yelled, pulling myself onto my feet and looking to Harry, who had turned his attention from the book to me. My entire body felt tense and I started running to where she had been laying, kicking and flailing through the water, searching for her body. The water receeded back into the water and pulled my feet towards the deeper water with the tide...

I found myself now waist deep in water, searching through the waves for her body. Harry and Brianna had joined me, wading through the water. I dove head first under a wave and opened my eyes...the salt water burning and stinging. I saw her floating under water a few feet away and swam over as fast as I could, grabbing her by under her arms and swimming towards the surface. She wrapped her hands around my arm as I pulled her above water. "What are you doing!?" she coughed as another wave splashed against our heads floating above the water. Harry and Brianna were swimming towards us..Harry had a seat-floatie from the airplane.

"Shes okay!" i called to them as they got closer."Oh good!" Brianna said, as they slowed down their hurried, panicked pace of swimming, holding onto either side of the floatie.
"You okay?" I turned back to Carey, who had her arms resting on my shoulders. She sighed and nodded. "Yeah...I wasn't drowning though...i liked it under there.." she replied. I raised an eyebrow and scoffed, "Dont tell me that.." i whispered. She smiled, "No Danny.. i wasn't trying to kill myself.. It was just...peaceful.." she said, staring up at the moon. I wrapped my arms around her back and started swimming towards the beach.

By the time we walked back onto the dry sand of the beach, Harry and Brianna started off towards the fire again..pulling off the outer layers of their wet clothes. I pulled off my sweatshirt and threw it over a rock on the beach, followed by my sneakers and socks and teeshirt. Carely pulled off her outer clothes too.... her sweatshirt, teeshirt and shorts- wrapping a dry towel around her body before slipping off her underware and bra too.

I wrapped a towel around my torso as well before pulling off my pants and boxers, lying them out to dry and starting a fire in the firepit we used a few days ago. I threw some logs into the pit and lit a piece of paper, placing it underneath the pile. Within a few minutes, the fire was lit and blazing, warming us sitting nearby and drying our clothes on the rock next to it.

I sat in the sand, my feet by the burning logs and Danny at my side. We both had a towel wrapped against us. Can you say sexual tension?! I giggled nervously, pulling my fingers through my wavy, dripping hair. "Thanks for...well...ya know" i started. He smiled wide, revealing his perfect, straight, large white teeth. "For saving you again?" he sighed. I hit him softly in the bare stomach with the back of my hand. "You didnt save me!" i protested. "I wasn't drowning...well..not really...but...you were concerned...so...thanks...i guess.." i said.
He smiled and nodded, I felt my cheeks burning and held tight to the towel wrapped around my body.

"Why...are you being so...nice?" I asked, confused..laughing lightly. He smiled and broke his gaze on me, looking to the fire. "You inspire me...i guess" he shrugged. I furrowed my eyebrows. "I worry about you...i just want to protect you.." I smiled at this and began to giggle. "Danny Jones..you are ADORABLE" i said, throwing my arms around his stomach for a hug. I rested my cheek on his chest as he wrapped an arm around my shoulders, rubbing my arm up and down with his big hands.

Danny's P.O.V.

"Danny Jones..." Carey giggled, "You are ADORABLE!" she said, throwing her arms around my abdomen and leaning her soft, smooth cheek against my chest.   I wrapped my arm around her shoulder, rubbing her arm with my hand. She turned her face up towards me, lifting her chin and staring into my eyes for a minute, biting her lip and smiling slightly. I inhaled deeply, holding my breath as I leaned in towards her, our faces growing closer. I felt her breath on my face as her eyes started to close. I tilted my head slightly and inched towards her until my lips were pressed against hers. I pulled back, keeping the smooch short and innocent. She opened her eyes and smiled, leaning her head back against my chest. I could feel her breath against my body..slowing as she started to fall asleep.

I sighed and grabbed the seat cushion from a few feet away, placing it behind her...setting her head down on it as I placed her, lying down onto the sand. She sighed lightly as she tucked her hands sleepily under her face. I walked over to the suitcases...by Harry and Brianna, who had fallen asleep by the fire...the book open on the sand. I grabbed a pair of boxers and a sweatshirt out of the suitcase. Pulling the boxers on as well as the sweatshirt, and grabbing a blanket and the book by Brianna- as I ran back to Carey, laying the blanket over her body.

I opened the book, which was Frankenstein, and flipped through.. trying to decide if it was worth reading. I sighed and gave up, finding it hard to read by the dim light of the fire. I threw some more wood onto the crackling fire and lied back on the sand, my arms above my head...staring at the stars until i fell asleep... I decided in the morning, that the survivors should gather together and some of us should wander farther into the forest.. We needed to look for a better shelter, or more food, and figure out just whats ON this island. For all we knew, we could be ON a part of Australia...just away from some civilizations..and never even know it.
