Chapter Fourteen
Carey's P.O.V.

Sitting on the beach, despite the fact that we were
surrounded by people, music, hotdog and ice cream
vendors and we could leave anytime we
wanted....started to remind us of our time on the
island. We sat around reminiscing and roasting
marshmellows in the fire as the sun set. I was wrapped
up in Danny's sweatshirt, contently leaning back
against him as I sat between his legs. Something about
these boys intrigued me so much. They were different
then boys back home. They were fun, spontaneous, and
totally hilarious. Simply being surrounded by the
mcfly boys lightened any mood.

After we were all equally tired and bugeaten, Harry,
Dougie, Tom and Brianna all started to stand up to
leave. We folded up our towels and packed our beach
bags.

"Want me to walk you home?" Danny whispered in my ear
as he hugged me from behind. I nodded silently,
smiling. I liked the idea of having some more alone
time with the boy.

"I'll call you tomorrow okay Brianna?" I said over my
shoulder as Danny and I headed in the opposite
direction. She smiled and nodded, "Sounds good! Night
guys!"   "Night love buggggs" Harry hooted, followed by
Dougie's giggle.

The walk home wasnt that far, but I didn't realize how
late it was. "I'm sooo tired" i complained. "What time
is it?" I asked curiously. Danny took his cell phone
out and flipped the screen open. "About 2 a.m." he
replied. "Shitttt. If my grandparents know i'm not
home yet, they'll flip" I giggled guiltily. Danny
shrugged,"They're probably long asleep by now.." I
nodded, hoping they weren't up waiting for me or
calling the cops to look for me or something like
that. Parents AND grandparents are overly protective
and unncessarily paranoid. We approached my
neighborhood and I was relieved to see that all the
lights in our house were out. "Whew. Hopefully that
means there asleep" I said as we walked up my
driveway. "Shit...how do we get in without the alarm
going off and giving it away that I'm just NOW coming
home?" I said, thinking hard. Danny looked around the
house, thinking of a way in. "Which is your bedroom?"
he asked. I looked at him sideways, "Well well well...
Danny Jones!" i teased him. He laughed and shoved me
playfully, "I mean to sneak it you freak!" he poked
back.

I pointed to the window on the top floor all the way
to the left, above the porch. "That one.. why?" I
asked. He motioned me to follow him and headed onto my
porch, stepping onto the railing and pulling himself
onto the roof of the porch. "What are you DOING?!" I
shrieked, trying to be quiet. He hushed me. "We'll go
in through your window! Its open just a crack..." he
said, offering a hand down to pull me onto the roof.
"I cant believe this, your going to get me killed or
arrested...." i said under my breath, taking his hand
as he pulled me onto the roof. We walked slowly across
the slanted shingles, approaching my window. I sat
back on my heels as Danny pulled the screen off my
window and placed it in the rain gutter, before
squeezing his fingers in the crack of the window and
pulling it open. "See!" he said proudly. I rolled my
eyes and crossed in front of him to enter into my
room. "Surprise, surprise...you ACTUALLY had a good
idea" i giggled. He stuck his tongue out at me and
crawled into my room behind me. I closed my door and
flicked on my light. "Okay, looks like my grandparents
are asleep. And who knows where the maid is...." I
trailed. "What?!" Danny exclaimed, taking me by
surprise. "You have a maid?" he asked. "Uhm..no..my
GRANDPARENTS have a maid" I laughed.

"Stilll..thats pretty sweet.." his voice trailed off
as he started looking around my bedroom. I had visited
my grandparents in Australia before, and had always
stayed in this room. Old pictures of me and them from
when I was little, along with pictures of my friends
from home littered the walls and dressers.   "Is this
you?" he asked, holding up a frame. I crossed my room
to see which picture he was looking at. "Yeah, that
was me when I was seven on my horse Nibbs." I said,
fondly remembering the horse I loved so dearly. "I
used to horseback ride..." I reminisced. He nodded,
"You look so happy..." I shrugged. I loved horses, so
it wasnt a shock to me that he noticed how happy I
was. "I love animals..." I offered openly.

"Whose the boy in the picture with you?" he asked,
pointing to the boy standing next to the horse I was
straddling. "My brother...." I said cooly. "Oh wicked!
I didn't know you have a brother? How old is he?...and
why didn't he come on the trip with you?" he
questioned, still gazing at the photo. "He's dead." I
answered, taking the picture out of his hand and
putting it back onto my dressertop. Danny's face
froze, obviously taken by surprise. I shrugged and
frowned, trying not to get choked up. "Can I ask how?"
he said quietly, after a second or two of awkward
silence...which I guess was to my doing. I sighed, "He
was kicked in the chest by a bronco we were trying to
break. His ribs broke and pierced his lungs two months
after this picture was taken..." I said, my chest
feeling heavy and a saddness taking over me after the
amazing night on the beach. "After that, my family
gave up raising horses...and none of us have been on
ever since.." Danny frowned and gave me a sideways
hug, "Sorry..." he said sincerely. I hugged him back
and nodded against his chest.

Telling the story of how my brother died, I cant even
imagine how hard it was on my parents. Understanding
this, I realized now this was probably the cause of
their overprotectiveness of me. I couldnt blame them
for worrying and being concerned, and the plane crash
earlier this summer must have nearly broken their
hearts. I'm STILL a little surprised I ever made it to
Australia on my own. "Your bed looks super soft..."
Danny said randomly. I giggled, "It is! Give it a
jump!" Danny smiled and took a skip towards it,
leaping into the air and bellyflopping onto the
bedspread. He rolled over on his back and reached his
arms up to me. I laughed and flopped softly onto the
bed next to him before wrapping my arms around his
stomach. "You know..I'm glad it was you that day on
the plane.." I started, looking up into those gorgeous
blue eyes. He smiled. "What do you mean?" he laughed.
"I mean, I'm glad it was your lap I fell into. You
really took care of me" I smiled, pushing a piece of
hair back from his eyes. He smiled wide and kissed my
forehead sweetly. "Me too" I yawned heavily and
snuggled against his chest, breathing in the heavy
scent of his cologne- which smelled oh so yummy.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" I jolted up in bed, startled by
a highpitched, ear piercing shriek. "Oh my god" I said
turning to Danny who jumped up next to me. My room was
filled with sunshine and when I looked down to my
beach clothes still on my body, I realized I had
fallen asleep with Danny, IN MY BED. "COME QUICK! SOME
MAN'S ATTACKING CAREY!" our Maid shrieked as she
dropped a folded pile of towels on the ground and went
running out into the hallway for my grandparent's
assistance. "Oh my God. Danny get out!" I said,
jumping off my bed and shoving him towards the window.
I climbed out onto the roof and turned back, sticking
his head through my window, "But when will I see you
again?" he asked desperately. "Never- if you dont get
out of here before my grandparents get up the stairs!"
I said. I turned to run out into the hallway to stop
them, as Danny caught my arm and pulled me back
towards him- kissing me softly on the lips before
dissapearing out the window, off the porch and into
the trees bordering our yard.

"CAREY!" my grandparents yelled, breathing heavily as
they ran into my room followed closely by the maid,
"WHERE IS HE? ARE YOU OKAY?" Shit. This is the lying
part. I was never very good at lying. Do I tell them
the maid hallucinated? Do i tell them I was attacked
by a complete stranger, or do I ...or do i....

Out of sheer confusion and the chaos rushing through
my mind, I burst into tears and collapsed to the
floor. I was screwed. My grandparents were going to
forbid me from seeing Danny anymore, ship me off for
the states, and I'd never see him again. All because I
fell asleep! My grandpa, infuriated, turned to our
maid. "Did you get a good look at him?" he asked her.
She frowned, "Not really sir...he might have
had...blonde hair?...or maybe it was black?...It was
really hard to tell. But he looked pretty tall.. I
think?" she answered shakily. I looked up through my
hands, tears on my cheeks. Wait a minute. This was my
chance. I could totally just fabricate someone....and
they'd never know. After the maid's incompetent
discription of what she THOUGHT he might look like, my
grandpa turned back to me and offered a steady hand up
to my feet. "Darling, can you give us any details? We
want to get this man and put him behind bars" he
hugged me tightly. I couldn't believe I was about to
lie to my grandpa. He was so sweet! Not to mention
supportive. "Uhm...uhm...he was kinda short. Maybe
5'5" or so...only a few inches taller than me.
And...he...had.....a skull and crossbone tattoo on the
back of his neck... OH, and a set of hands praying
with rosary beads down the inside of his forearm" I
lied. Damn. I was one HELL of a bullshitter. I could
barely believe the words coming out of my mouth? It
was like total word vomit. They came out without me
even thinking.   "And his hair was... short and
black..kinda in a greasy 'fonze' doo."

My grandpa nodded, taking in my observations very
seriously. "Carey..did he...touch you?" he asked
fearfully. "Oh! Nooo! He broke in, through my window
there... I guess he was just trying to rob us or
something, but I woke up and he threatened to uh..kill
me if I screamed." I swallowed hard, almost starting
to believe the lie I had completely made up on the
spot. My grandpa studied the window, "We'll replace
the screen and get an alarm put on all the upstairs
windows. It'll be okay Carey, you're safe now.." he
smiled, kissing me on the cheek and motioning for my
grandma, who was softly stroking my back, and the maid
to follow him out of the room, "Call if you need
anything" he said, pulling my door closed behind him.

WHEW. I breathed a huge sigh of relief as I was once
again left alone in my room. Thank GOD we got away
with that. If my grandparents thought I had spent the
night with Danny, I'd probably be shipped back home
and forbidden from seeing him ever again. Needless to
say, my family was OLD fashioned. I tiptoed over to my
bedroom door and opened it a crack, peeking out. My
grandpa was on the phone in the foyer just below,
yelling into the phone. "No, I want your guys at my
house by TOMORROW with a new alarm system ready to
install or you're not getting your bonus!!!!" I gasped
as I noticed my grandma open the door to two
policemen. I closed my bedroom door and nervously went
back over to my bed to sit down. "shiiiiiiit" i
panicked quietly. Now what? I had really gotten myself
in way too deep. Maybe I should just come out and say
it was just a friend... try and convince them nothing
happened.. "Carey?" My grandma knocked softly on my
large oak wood door. "Yes?" my voice answered shakily.
She opened the door, followed by my grandpa and the
two cops. "These policemen would just like to ask you
a few questions....if...your up for it?" she proceeded
to ask. Crap, "sure?" I nodded, as the policemen
stepped foward, looking around my room before flipping
open a notepad. "Can you describe the man for us
ma'am?" Gulp. Just tell them, just get it out and over
wi- "He was kinda stalky and blonde, with several
tattoos on him...one I noticed on the back of his neck
of a skull and crossbones.. and praying hands on his
forearm." What?! The words spilled out of me before I
even had time to consider an alternative plan of
action. "Can you describe the scene for us...using as
much detail as possible..."

Uhoh.. I hadn't really thought out the details. My
heartbeat started to race. Can't you get arrested if
you're caught lying to an officer? "Well.. I just
happened to wake up.. and he was poking around my
room. He saw me and froze..the maid walked in, and he
booked.." Gulp. I hope they buy it. The cop who was
asking all of the questions nodded, but narrowed his
eyes to me. "Were you wearing...that?" he asked,
referring to my jeans and sweatshirt- DANNY'S
sweatshirt. "Oh..yeah.. I was..uh... up reading last
night and fell asleep" I laughed nervously, picking up
a magazine from the floor next to my bed. The other
policemen, who had yet to speak, looked over the notes
he had jotted down on his notepad. "If we need to
bring you in to identify a suspect, would you be
willing to come down to the station?" he asked. I
forced a smile, "Yeah..yeah sure."
"And there's no need for an ambulance or anything like
that?" the first policemen doublechecked. I shook my
head. "Nope. he didn't touch me." I smiled, pretending
to be greatful as the policemen and my grandparents
exited my bedroom.

"HOW EMBARRASINGGG...." i groaned to myself, buring my
face into my pillow. The only way this could actually
have gotten any more awkward, was if this whole
situation actually HAPPENED. I let out a deep breath,
shaking out my nerves after the practically public
interrogation.

Danny's P.O.V.

I jumped off the roof of the porch and ran as fast as
I could down the street before cutting through a
neighbors yard onto the beach- where I continued back
towards home. It was probably a half an hour later
when I finally got back to the vacation house I was
sharing with the boys. I unlocked the front door and
dropped my keys on the kitchen counter, absolutely
starving for some breakfast. "Well well well.. look
who decided to come home" Harry poked fun at me. I
laughed, but didn't feed to his teasing by answering
his comment. Tom and Dougie, who were sitting at the
table eating their weight in cereal snorted giggles. I
grabbed a bowl and the milk from the fridge and walked
over to join them, pushing Harry's head from behind as
he went to take a spoonful of Lucky Charms- causing
his face to go foward, nose first into the milky
spoon. "Aah, Danny! I have milk up my nose now..." he
groaned, making me giggle. I took the box from the
middle of the table and poured myself a
bowl...dumbfounded at the fact that not ONE
marshmellow came out. "Dude!? Where'd the
marshy-mellows go?"   I asked aloud. Tom chuckled and
pointed to Dougie, who put a protective arm around his
bowl.

"DOUG!" I laughed, "you took ALL the marshmellows?" I
scooped up a handful of the cereal from my bowl and
threw them across the table at him. He squealed,
spooning out a marshmellow onto his fork and pulling
his spoon back- launching it across the table at me. I
saw it coming and grabbed the box for a shield. When I
looked back up though, expecting to see the
milk-soaked marshmellow somewhere infront of me or
glued to the otherside of the cereal box, I burst out
hysterically laughing when I saw it had landed in
Harry's EAR! "Ha ha! Serves you right!" I teased.
