I stared at the nurse blankly, waiting for an explanation...completely incapable of forming my own words. She flipped through the chart. "Yeah, Karen Bernardini MSC... she had a miscarriage?..." the nurse replied to my blank stare. Now I was really confused. I heard an 'ahem' from the otherside of the room. "Nurse..." a female voice called. The curtain was pulled back and a small, almost anorexic looking, girl in her early 20s appeared in a hospital robe, dragging behind her a heart monitor on wheels. "Nurse..I'M Karen Bernardini." she replied.
The nurse furrowed her eyebrows and now I was REALLY confused. "Wait.. THIS" i pointed to the sleeping Carey, "Is Carey BINGHAM." I laughed. The nurse looked at the two charts. "Oh my God, I'm SO sorry, the charts must have been switched by accident" she blushed, "it's just you both have such similiar names..." she apologized. I waved my hand and Karen just laughed and told the nurse not to worry about it. The nurse left and the thin girl walked over to introduce herself. "That must be a big relief huh?" she laughed, slightly frowning and looking down to her own stomach. "You cant even IMAGINE!" i started, "I couldn't figure out how they would have detected it so soon!!!" I started. She looked at me sideways and I bit my lips. Whoops. "Hey, I'm sorry about....you know" i motioned. She smiled and nodded, thankful, before heading back to her side of the room. "Nice to meet you Danny Jones..Hope shes feeling better soon" she said as she pulled the curtain to her side of the room. I heard her tv flick on.
I looked back down to Carey. MY Carey, thinking about the mistake the nurse had made. She still had wires and iv's in her arms, and for some reason..as if it would answer any questions I had in my mind, I reached under her hospital gown and placed my hand on her stomach. I sighed, laughing at myself, it had only been three days and I totally pulled out in time...i hope. I pulled the blankets back over Carey, kissed her forehead and climbed out of bed...deciding to go look for the others and maybe grab a cup of coffee.

After the helicopter left with Danny and Carey, a few rescue boats came a couple hours later. MAN was I glad to be off that beach, and feel something underneath my feet BESIDES sand. We all climbed into the rafts and soon were flying over the surface of the water. After probably about half an hour, we were approaching the mainland. After pouring out of the boats, we were directed towards a hospital, which was a few blocks down the road. Nothing none of us weren't capable of walking. When we got to the hospital, my first instinct was to search for Danny. Instead of doing the logical thing, asking someone what room or wing he'd be in, I just started running around screaming 'Danny' at the top of my lungs. "SIR!....SIR!" a security guard ran after me. "SIR YOU HAVE TO STOP YELLING, THIS IS A HOSPITAL!" he said as he grabbed me by the arm and started pulling me back to the front lobby. "You dont understand," i tried explaining, "I'm searching from my friends!!!"
When he pushed me through the double doors back into the green, linoleum floored hospital lobby, Danny and Brianna were standing by the information desk. Brianna laughed at me. I rubbed my arm where the guard had gripped me tightly and started over towards them. "You should have just waited another 30 seconds" Brianna laughed, "Danny came downstairs like...RIGHT after you took off..." she giggled. I shrugged and smiled, patting Danny's back. "Hows Carey mate?" I asked. Danny nodded and motioned for us to follow him, a cup of coffee in his hand. I grabbed Bri's hand and we followed Danny into the elevator, up to the 11th floor, and out into an intensive care ward. He started into one of the doors but stopped dead. Perplexed, Bri and I snuck up behind him and peered in.
"MY BABY!" a middle aged woman cried, throwing herself over Carey, hugging her tightly. "I knew we shouldn't have let you fly alone!!!" she sobbed. Carey rolled her eyes. "Mom! It could have happened to ANYONE. I'm fine arent I!?" Carey argued back. A man, who I presume is her father, was standing with his back to us, at the end of the bed. "Can I still spend the summer in Austrailia with gramma and granpa?" Carey asked. The woman shook her head, "Lets not think of that right now baby, okay?" she cooed, still crying. Carey sighed and flopped her head back onto the pillow.
"Let's leave them alone for a while" Danny suggested. Bri and I nodded and we walked a little ways down the hallway, where a few chairs were propped up against the wall, and took a seat.
Carey's P.O.V.
I was glad to see my parents, dont get me wrong. But MAN I couldn't wait for them to leave me alone. I was sleeping all peacefully, only to be woken up by the shrieks and high pitch screams of my mother throwing herself over me. I couldn't help but be slightly apathetic. I was confused though. Where'd Danny go? I furrowed my eyebrows, frowning, looking around the room. My mom and dad kissed and hugged me and asked me about everything that happened. I explained to them that I was on my way back from the bathroom when the plane broke in half over the ocean...and how a boy named Danny saved my life. I left out alot of gorey details...just so they wouldn't worry or become TOO hysterical. I also left out the night in the cave, OBVIOUSLY.
After my mother stopped crying, I brought up this summer. After all, it was only the second week of June... "Can I still spend the summer with granma and granpa?" I asked. My mom shook her head but replied vaguely. My dad just smiled and told me to concentrate on getting better first. AS IF! I'm not even 'ill'...i'm dehydrated. And i'll be fine in a day or two. Geeeeeze- parents!
That night, my parents left the hospital to stay at a hotel only a block away. Of course they left a number and strict instructions with the nurses to call if anything happened overnight or if I became ill again. I sighed as they left the room. Visiting hours were over, and all guests had to leave the hospital. I wonder where Danny is? I frowned and stared out the window at the crescent moon. It was a full moon the night Danny and I spent together, only three days ago. I turned over on my side to better stare out the window and prayed that I'd see him again soon. My prayers were answered a few seconds later. I heard the door creak open and turned to look, expecting to see a nurse for a nightly check up. It was Danny.
"DANNY!" i shouted. "SHH!!" he responded, holding his finger up to his lips, smiling. I scooted my butt as far back as I could, until it was against the plastic side of the hospital bed. Danny slipped off his shoes and climbed in under the thin cotton covers, his left hand up by my face...tracing my cheek with his thumb, and his right hand on my back. "Where'd you go earlier?" I asked, "I woke up to my parents, instead of you" i laughed. He smiled, "I went to get a cup of coffee, and when I came back..they were in the room with you...so I let you guys have your private time. Harry and Bri were here to visit too...but the left when visiting hours ended. They're staying at a hostel down the street, but said to tell you feel better soon!" I nodded, wrapping my hand around the collar of his shirt. I pulled myself up and kissed him softly on the lips before burrying my face into his chest. He smelled of ocean and sweat, but oddly enough, i loved his scent, and it was just enough to relax me into a deep sleep.
The next morning, I felt the warm sun on my face and Danny's arm still over me, when I heard yells, "DANNY! MATE, YOUR OKAY!" I opened my eyes, sleepy yet alarmed. Two boys walked in with Harry and Brianna.. i didn't recognize them, but figured they must be Danny's other bandmates. They had cute english accents to match Danny's and Harry's. One of them had bleach blonde hair and black wide rimmed glasses and an adorable dimple. He was the oldest looking and very excited to see Danny. The other was a slightly shorter, less conservative strawberry-blonde boy, with a green shortsleeved teeshirt on, revealing a very large tattoo coming down his arm. I also noticed he had stars on his ankles, which reminded me of Danny's tattoo. I had amired it on the beach a few days ago...it was very intricate.
I sat up in the hospital bed as Danny rolled out onto his feet to hug the visitors Harry brought. Bri came over and sat on the bed, hugging me tightly. "How you feeling?!" she asked. I smiled and nodded, "okay...who are they?" i whispered. She winked and turned to the small reunion of boys behind her. "Doug, Tom...this is Carey. Carey, this is Dougie.." she pointed to the strawberry blonde, who stuck out his hand in greeting. I shook it and smiled a hi, "and this is Tom" she said, and I greeted the other. "Nice to meet you both...you must be the rest of the band, then?" I asked. They nodded and patted Danny and Harry on the back. "Yup, and thank GOODNESS these two are okay...or else we'd be up a creek!" Tom exclaimed. "Thanks for taking such good care of them" he winked. I smiled, blushing. If only they knew how much Danny took care of ME.
They pulled up a few chairs and Danny and Harry started telling them about the entire flight. How we all met at London Airport, I met them again on the way back from the bathroom, how I was knocked unconscious, the crash...everything. It was like listening to a novel or something...a story i didn't know. They also explained when I woke up on the beach, I didn't remember anything or anyone. "Whoa" answered Dougie. It was the first thing he said. "Thats insane" Tom finished Dougie's thought. I laughed at the two. They were funny...such opposites!
"Are you guys still going down to Austrailia then?" Tom asked. I shrugged, and Brianna nodded. "I'm going down there to live with my dad" she replied. "I was supposed to be going there for summer vacation with my grandparents...I guess its up to my parents now though" I said. They all nodded, understanding. To my dismay, a second later both my parents walked in. "CAREY!" my mom exclaimed, "You've made friends already? I guess you're feeling better then, huh?" she teased, giggling. I rolled my eyes, the boys giggled as she kissed my forehead. "I'm fine mom..i promise" I stated. She nodded. "Are you gonna introduce your father and me?" she winked. I sighed, and introduced Brianna, then Harry, Dougie, Tom and Danny....counterclockwise as to where they were sitting.
"DANNY!?" my mom replied. "The Danny that saved you?" she asked. Embarrased, I felt my cheeks burning bright red, incapable of answering. "Yup. Thats me!" Danny replied, "But she saved ME too!" He responded. Wide-eyed and interested in the story, my parents both sat on the end of the bed as Danny began to explain about the Natives and how I saved him. I clung to the sheets, barely breathing, completely terrified he'd mention the caves. But thankfully, he didn't. WHEW. I have to thank that boy later! After his story, which finished with a terrifying drop down a waterfall and being found by Harry and Bri, my mom turned to me and squealed. "MY BRAVE LITTLE GIRL!!" she cried, "you've been through so much! I'm so proud of you and I'm so happy you're alright!" My father patted my knee, agreeing with my mom. I guess you could say my mother was the talker of the two.
"Can I still go to Grandmas?" I asked, hopeful. My mom frowned and turned to my father. "Well..I dont see why not? But we're going to fly you there and drop you off okay?!" She asked. I sighed, knowing this was the best compromise I was going to get. "Okay..." I sighed.
Later that day, Danny, Harry, Tom, Dougie and Brianna all boarded flights to Austrailia. My flight left the following day. I hugged them all goodbye, gave them my grandparent's house phone number, and told them that I hoped we'd see each other again over the summer. As they were leaving the room, my mom and dad sitting by the radiator, watching tv, Danny shuffled his feet nervously. "Uhm. Hey mom, dad...could you go get me some jello? I'm famished?" I smiled innocently. My mom winked at me and grabbed my dad's arm, pulling him out into the hallway, "Sure thing honey."
After they left, Danny closed the door...to give us some privacy. My roomate Karen had left earlier this morning too. She check out of the hospital, so I had the entire room to myself.
"Danny..." I started, depression sweeping over me. I didn't want to say goodbye. Goodbye's SUCK. "You're the most amazing person I've ever known..." I started, sitting up in bed. He sat by my hip, facing me and laughed. "Well then you must not know yourself..." he started, "because your the best thing that ever could have happened to me." He smiled as he leaned his forehead against mine. I stared into his blue eyes, a deep blue that instantly reminded me of the ocean water...and the peacefulness I felt the night the wave swept me off the beach. He kissed me softly, letting it linger for a few seconds, his hand cupping my cheek...before standing and making his way towards the door. He flashed the piece of paper with my grandparent's numbers on it, "I'll call...i promise...this isn't the end" he smiled. I blew a kiss and laid back in bed. I really....really hope he's right.
